Types of Patient Alerts
Alerts are divided into different categories. There are QOF Alerts, Enhanced Services or Other Indicators. When Bluebay release patient alerts they are assigning a category depending on the nature of the NHS programme. GP Contract alerts will be listed as QOF, but other services like the ‘Seasonal Flu Vaccine Programme’ or an ‘Anticoagulation Manager’ may come under ‘Other Indicators’ or ‘Enhanced Services’ respectively.
This is an important distinction because the alert window itself can be configured to display all the alert types in the same window, or divide them into the groups mentioned above. If you are unaware of this setting, then I suggest taking a look at this article so you will be able to find and identify any potentially “missing” indicators that you or your staff may have brought to your attention. Combining your patient alerts will ensure no alerts are missed, but will often create a larger alert window due to the amount of alerts a patient may have when they are combined into one alert window.
Floating BlueBay Toolbar
The floating toolbar consists of several buttons which group together alerts of a specific type. Each icon represents a category of alerts which may be triggered in the patient record. The alert window itself is somewhat larger, and will appear as you enter the patient record. However some users prefer to stop the Alert window from appearing as default, preferring to use the less intrusive floating toolbar, as an indicator as to whether the patient have alerts.
If you find you are regularly hiding the main alert window you may wish to switch this feature off, and use the floating toolbar as an indication whether alerts are present for the patient.
Clicking any one of these buttons will launch the patient alert window. Each icon represents alert specific to the alert group.

Combine Your Alerts into a Single Window
To merge all of your alerts into a single window, the user will need to first close down any patient records within your clinical system, which will put Bluebay in “Practice Mode”.
- Right Click Bluebay icon in your system tray
- Left Click Settings
- Find the Combine Triggers Checkbox & Check it
- Click OK
This setting is not system wide but is client specific. If you wish to apply this change to everyone at the practice then it will need to be carried out on each computer.
